Web Accessibility

We make the web accessible to everyone, creating WCAG 2.1 compliant sites that respect digital inclusion

An accessible site allows anyone to navigate and use content, regardless of their physical or cognitive abilities. We design interfaces compliant with WCAG 2.1, focusing on semantic structure, keyboard navigation, and screen reader compatibility.

The benefits of an accessible site

Making a site accessible brings concrete benefits, both legally and commercially:

  • Broader market - over 1 billion people worldwide have some form of disability
  • Regulatory compliance - European Accessibility Act (EAA 2025) and national laws
  • Better UX for all - accessibility best practices improve the experience for all users
  • SEO advantage - semantic structure and well-organized content favor ranking
  • Brand reputation - demonstrates social responsibility and attention to inclusion
  • Reduced legal risks - avoids litigation for digital discrimination

WCAG 2.1 - The Four Principles (POUR)

The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.1 are based on four fundamental principles:

1. Perceivable

  • Text alternatives for non-text content (images, video, audio)
  • Captions and transcripts for multimedia content
  • Minimum color contrast ratio of 4.5:1 (7:1 for AAA)
  • Text resizing up to 200% without loss of functionality
  • Content not conveyed by color alone

2. Operable

  • All functionality accessible from a keyboard
  • Sufficient time to read and use content
  • No content that causes seizures (flashing < 3 times/second)
  • Clear and consistent navigation mechanisms
  • Multiple input methods for interaction

3. Understandable

  • Clear and simple language appropriate to the context
  • Predictable and consistent interface behavior
  • Labels and instructions for user input
  • Error prevention and handling with correction suggestions
  • Contextual help and documentation

4. Robust

  • Valid and semantically correct HTML code
  • Compatibility with current and future assistive technologies
  • ARIA (Accessible Rich Internet Applications) when appropriate
  • Progressive enhancement and graceful degradation

Regulations and Compliance

We help you comply with current accessibility regulations in Italy and Europe:

  • Stanca Law (L. 4/2004) - Italian accessibility law for PA sites and public service providers
  • CAD (D.Lgs. 82/2005) - Digital Administration Code with accessibility requirements
  • AgID Guidelines - technical requirements and compliance levels for public sites
  • European Accessibility Act (EAA) - EU Directive 2019/882 effective from June 28, 2025
  • EN 301 549 - European standard for accessibility of ICT products and services
  • ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) - if operating in the US

Tools and Testing

We use a combination of automated tools and manual testing to ensure maximum compliance:

  • Automated Testing - Axe, WAVE, Lighthouse Accessibility audit
  • Screen Readers - NVDA, JAWS, VoiceOver, TalkBack
  • Keyboard Navigation - comprehensive keyboard-only navigation tests
  • Color Contrast Analyzers - contrast verification and color blindness simulation
  • Browser Extensions - Axe DevTools, Accessibility Insights
  • Manual Testing - manual verification according to WCAG 2.1 checklist
  • User Testing - involving users with real disabilities

Accessibility and SEO

An accessible site is also an SEO-friendly site. Many best practices overlap:

  • HTML semantic structure (heading hierarchy, landmarks)
  • Alternative text for images
  • Clear and well-organized textual content
  • Descriptive links (no "click here")
  • Sitemaps and logical navigation
  • Performance and loading speed
  • Mobile-friendliness
